I've been thinking a lot lately about Tiger Woods and why when he has short putt issues, every golfer better listen and learn. He's still one of the very best Putters and golfers who's always hot on the heels of today's best golfers.
Tiger was having issues with some 2 and 3 foot Putts in tournaments recently, and that got me thinking why you guys need regular short putting practice. A lot of still think you don't need it. I beg to differ there lads.
If you still think you don't need short putting practice you better take up basket weaving while on trendy chemical amusement aid. Maybe you'll find your zen there. But I digress.
Here's a simple short putting routine you can do weekly.
Okay, start off with some tap in putts for a couple of minutes just to warm you up. Now for the next 5 minutes do some 2 footers. Then another 5 minutes of 3 footers. Don't stop if you miss. Just get use to
the feel of your short putts on impact and how far back and forward you need to take your putting stroke.
Don't worry so much about mechanics. It's just doing it that counts more than anything. 12 minutes a day 3 days a week. Can't commit to that then cut it in half to 6 minutes. Even at 6 minutes 3 times a week that's 18 minutes a week, 72 minutes a month and 864 minutes a year.
If you can commit to even that you'll have great short putting success with your 2 and 3 footers which can be a problem in increasing your round scores, which you don't want. I realize these tips are simple and anyone can do them. But most golfers and instructors only talk about the sexy stuff like long putts and being able to drive 300 yards. Good luck with all that.
But the simple basic stuff like tap-in putts, 1, 2 and 3 footers are what will help your game more than the rest of that crap. Still don't believe me? Give my short putting tip here a try and get back to me with your results.
I personally think even Tiger, Loren Roberts or Brad Faxon--all great golfers and putters, would use my little un-sexy short putting tip.
Thanks guys and much success on the green.
