Well, this interview with Mark Harman from the US Golf Teachers Federation is up now, right here. It's short and talks about the foundation of Putting
and how to get started, and what most golfers including pros do that short
circuit their Putting success in the long run.
This little primer on short putting will help you know what to focus on and
get started on the right path to Putting Success.Mark Harman has been in the game for a long time and helps both pros and amatuers from every level.
So take a few minutes to learn and take massive action on getting a better
Putting game going guys.
MG: When you teach golfers both novice or even pros Putting, do you start them off with tapins and short putts or what they are having problems with?
MH: For novices, I think it's best to start with short putts such as tap-ins, so they can have some immediate success at the game. Also, since it's such a short stroke, they can learn what it's like to have some control over the club, which is much more difficult with a longer club for a novice. With pros, there are some checkpoints you want to examine, such as how well they aim the putter and how well they read the greens. Believe it or not, many pros do not do those two things as well as you might expect.
MG: I find a lot of golfers whern Putting think they need perfect mechanics and don't focus on the Putt it's self. What do you recommend to golfers on the green who do this and make small flaws constantly in their putting stroke?
MH: Very good point. When it comes time to pull the trigger, you can't be thinking about mechanics. The best thing to concentrate on is the speed of the putt, or how hard to hit it. Once you have addressed the ball with your putter, you should have confidence that the line is correct. Save the mechanics for the practice green.

Why Your Short Putt Aim Is Like Playing Pool And Why It Will Help Your Yips
This article I got from a well known writer who I thought was target on!
It's more important to have better aim than worrying about mechanics and distance control. It's more important to get a handle on your short putt aim.Think about playing pool. Aim is primary.
So read this article and get with the putting program guys.
Putting Yips and Funny Grips

I am the inventor and author of Target Putting, the internets best selling putting book for the last seven years. It is nothing short of ...
Anyone that has ever had them knows putting yips are the worst thing that can ever happen to your golf score. My yips were so bad at one point a green in regulation only guaranteed a bogey. It got so bad I literally quit the game for almost five years.
In my efforts to beat the yips, one thing became clear. No matter what you do to your stroke, the results will be temporary at best. Whether it be a new putter or a change in grip, in the end it was still me putting the ball. Whatever was wrong always came back because nothing I did addressed the real cause of the yips, which was something even the experts did not agree upon.
After having gone through everything from several new putters and grips and stances, I finally gave up. Golf is no fun if you can not even hit the hole from 3 feet, no matter how many greens you might hit.
Having no where else to go, I just quit playing. I started playing pool instead. Not only is it a lot of fun, but I never had to use a putter. In the early stages of my learning the game, I got a tip from a nice old man who told me where I should be looking when I hit the cue ball. From there, my game took off.
Then one night several years later while I was playing in a pool tournament, right in the middle of a key shot, I realized exactly why I could not putt a golf ball. I suddenly understood the yips, both the cause and the cure, all while looking down an eight ball shot on a pool table.
As it turned out, what I had discovered was unique. I still can not find anyone else who mentions it anywhere on the web, or in any book on putting I have read. The bottom line is that I was playing the wrong kind of game. I was trying to play golf with my putter.
Putting is a target game, more like pool than it will ever be like golf. I started over by building a putting system based on the fundamentals of all other target games. Once those fundamentals were applied, putting became easy.
And best of all, once the average player adapts the target game fundamentals they can not help but putt better. Proper application of the fundamentals eliminates the cause and provides the cure for the yips with one simple move.
