Short Putts---How To Align Them Properly For More Success On The Green

Short Putting - How To Align Your Short Putts Properly
By Mark Grove

Most Golfers have a lot, and I mean a lot of trouble lining up their short putts properly so they get the right break and accuracy in their putting stroke. There's a sweet spot in your putts believe it or not. First of all, instead of always trying to have perfect putting mechanics when addressing your putt, concentrate on hitting the ball with the middle, or sweet spot of the putter club-head.

At the same time you want to visualize and have your putting stroke follow that sweet spot line to the hole. What I suggest to players having putting stroke alignment problems to, put a piece of tape on the top of the putter club head in the middle of it. This will give a visual cue or guide as to where the ball should meet the putter. Also, by using this technique for a while, your putts won't have to be done with as much force and you will gain more control over the speed and distance of your putts.

You'll find that sweet spot by practicing with the tape in the middle. Don't use this on the course because I'm not sure about the rules regarding anything that assists your game in a way that gives you undue advantage over another golfer.

By using the 'tape technique' your short putts more than the longer ones will become stronger--and with extra practice your long putts will benefit as well.

You can use the Tape technique for both Putting and Drives to assist you in your game.
