Ya know what winter in Canada is good for?
Practicing your golf putting. I'm not jivin' ya. if you're a golfer you can practice your putting anywhere. Just find a carpet and grab your putter and ball and use a discarded coffee cup you bought at the local coffee shop as the hole and get to work. Mind you if you live in an apartment building your neighbor below you might not be too happy hearing a rolling ball above them. Put something behind the coffee cup to absorb the sound of the ball hitting anything hard like your baseboard.. Yeah, I'm making this difficult for you aren't I? You could roll up a couple towels to put behind the coffee cup. Now, get to work. Think about it, just 10 minutes of putting a day indoors. Do that 3 or 4 times a week and you'll be many times better than your buddies who think that by being able to drive the ball 250 yards like clockwork will make their game better. Believe me, working on your putting will take your game farther than just being able to drive the snot out of the ball. If you live in an apartment in a big city like I do, your neighbors will hate you for taking putting practice in your apartment above them.
It's better to improvise and find a golf course that has indoor facilities for golfers. Not many, but some do have indoor facilities for both putting and practicing drives. If its a little pricey take your golf buddies with you and get a package deal. If they wont go, pay for it yourself and you'll be one up on the competition.
Most golfers find a stupid reason not to practice their putting. Oh, it's boring, or I dont need to because I'm a great putter. Yeah, sure you are. And the classic one, my driving is so good I dont need to practice putting. If you have a good brain, and I know you do, you'll either improvise at home and practice putting or go to a local facility. Believe me its worth it. And a lot more golfers want to join leagues or go on the amateur tours in your state or province. For most golfers its about bragging rights. Dont be a golf bragger and not be able to back it up. I know you're not like that. Take the time to practice your putting and then go on the course and kick ass!
Here in my town of London, Ontario there is a great coach you can go to for putting. His name is Brian Gallant. He's the head pro at Fire Rock golf course. Give him a ring, or email him. I hope he doesn't mind a plug for him. Just go to www.golfbetter.ca for indoor coaching.
