Damn right you do!
Chances are you aren't a great golfer and have a horrible handicap. Most players can barely keep their round score at 80 on a regular basis. And putting is almost always neglected so you can focus on drives, pitches and wedge shots.
The only way you can help keep your round score down is Putting practice. If you just putt one extra stroke
a hole because of putting badly for every hole, that's an extra 18 shots. Even if you played to even par that's
90 shots for the round. Not good. So my numbers are actually a little low.
So start doing some putting practice daily. I have a friend who practices guitar 5 to 10 minutes a day and is sticking with the basics of chord and note playing, for now. Think about that and relate that to putting practice.
Stick to short putts and keeping your putts simple with compact strokes and alignment of your putts. Putting is a control shot, and short putts believe or not are more difficult than long putts. It's kind of like guitar players who can play fast and furious on the frets, but when it comes to slower music like blues, or short putts in this case, can't do them to save their life.
That's why you need to practice short putts daily even for 5 minutes and keep it simple. If not your round score will always hover in the 85-90 region. I hope this helps your putting routine, and shows you that you need to practice putts. If Tiger, Phil and Rory need to practice short putts daily, you need to.
I'll have another round of why you need to practice short putts later this week.
Much success with your short putts guys.
Mark
